The Committee is a subsidiary body of the United Nations Economic and Social Council. It provides an input and advice on international cooperation for development as well as on emerging development issues.
The Committee is also responsible for monitoring and reviewing the status of countries in order to determine their eligibility for inclusion in the list of least developed countries (LDCs).
The committee has 24 members, which are nominated by the United Nations Secretary-General for a period of three years.
