Grenada holds early parliamentary elections
|
|
There are roughly 55,000 registered voters on the island of about 110,000 people.
In
September, Grenada's governor general suspended a parliamentary session
allowing Thomas to avoid debate on a no-confidence motion filed by a
political ally. The New National Party (NNP), the opposition party, sought to bring an end to Thomas' government, claiming he showed poor leadership and brought political and economic uncertainties to the country.
The new election will see Thomas' National Democratic Congress running against the NNP led by former Prime Minister Keith Mitchell.
