Afghanistan to hold presidential and provincial elections

Afghanistan heads to the ballot box for the second time since a US-led invasion toppled the Taliban regime.
The election date was announced in October 2012, amid concerns that sitting President Hamid Karzai would seek another term even though he is constitutionally barred from doing so.
With the elections being held towards the end of the ISAF mission, some worry that Afghanistan is not ready to fully take care of its own security.
"There is more insecurity, and the challenges have increased since the last election", lawmaker Ghulam Farooq said when the election date was announced.
Others say that regardless of who is voted into office, Karzai will continue to pull the strings behind the scenes.
Several Afghans have been named for the Presidency, including Karzai's brother Abdul Quayum and the current Minister of Education Farooq Wardak.
