Around the world Friday the 13th is considered to be a day of bad luck.
There is no written evidence dating back from before the 19th century about Friday the 13th superstition. The earliest document referring to it originates from 1869.
It is assumed that several older superstitions were combined in creating the fear of Friday the 13th. Friday is seen as an unlucky day since at least the 14th century and the number thirteen is considered an unlucky number, since the number twelve is seen as the number of completeness in numerology.
The superstition around Friday the 13th hit mainstream around 1953.
