Hindu New Year 2013
Hindu belief is spread accross the Indian subcontinent and beyond. Because of this geographical diversity, not one calendar is known to be the Hindu calendar, but several. The Indian government has, although, chosen a Indian National Calendar, which is used alongside the Gregorian Calendar.
In this Indian National Calendar the months have the same names as some of the older Luni-solar calendars. So, Chaitra is the first month of the year. first of Chaitra is the date of the Hindu New Year.
It falls on 22 March, except for Leap Years, when it falls on 21 March and the Chaitra month has 31 days (otherwise 30).
