The awards ceremony takes place over a month later than earlier scheduled to avoid a clash with the Winter Olympics in Soci, Russia.


The Academy Awards, better known as the Oscars, are presented by the American Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in recognition of cinematic excellence. 


Since its first edition in 1929, the Oscars ceremony has become one of the most prominent awards ceremonies in the world. Every year the much anticipated event is broadcast live in more than one hundred countries.
