The biennial Nuclear Security Summit hosts government delegations from all over the world as well as delegations from the European Union, International Atomic Energy Agency and the United Nations.
The purpose of the summit is to deepen the cooperation and partnership in efforts to prevent the seizure of nuclear materials by terrorists.
The participants of the summit also seek ways to prevent illicit trafficking and smuggling of nuclear materials.
The first Nuclear Security Summit was held in Washington, D.C. and focused on how to prevent nuclear terrorism through more efficient safeguarding of weapons-grade plutonium and uranium.
