The Glastonbury Festival of Contemporary Performing Arts is a performing arts festival best known for its contemporary music, but also for dance, comedy, theatre, circus, cabaret and other arts.
Commonly abbreviated to Glastonbury or even Glasto, the festival usually takes place near Pilton, Somerset, England,
The festival organizer Michael Eavis, a farmer in a Somerset valley decided to host the first festival, then called Pilton Festival, after seeing an open air Led Zeppelin concert at the Bath Festival of Blues in 1970.
Since the 1970s, the festival has grown in size and numbers for what began as a festive hippie movement.
