The world ends according to the old Mayan calendar. The Ancient Mayans predicted that the last day of the 13th bak'tun, or 144,000-day cycle, marks the end of a full cycle of creation.

The Catholic Pope Benedict XVI has called on Christians not to heed doomsday warnings that the world will end on the 21st. NASA, the US organization for space exploration, confirms that the world will not end in 2012.
