Asteroid makes close approach to Earth - Space
sxc: sundstrom

Asteroid (2004 FG11) makes closest approach to Earth. Despite its name, such an object causes a disaster once in 10,000 years.

A potentially hazardous object (PHO) is an asteroid (PHA) or comet (PHC) with an orbit that has the potential to make close approaches to Earth and a significant size to cause substantial regional damage in the event of impact.

The reason they can become hazardous is that their trajectory can variate due to gravitional fields from Planets or Stars.

PHO are usually monitored by NASA. This Asteroid is expected to make its next closest approach in November 2014. It has a cycle of about 2 years and 1 days.
