|
Vietnam celebrates this day as the national Liberation Day or Reunification Day.
Saigon, the capital of South Vietnam was captured by the People's Army of Vietnam and the National Liberation Front on 30 April, 1975 and thus the Fall of Saigon, also referred to as Liberation of Saigon, was achieved.
This set the beginning of Vietnam's transition from a reunified to a communist state.
Refugees from Vietnam residing in the US and all over the world call the week of 30 April, Black April and remember the Fall of Saigon during that period.
