The annual World Single Distances Speed Skating Championships are a series of speed skating competitions.
The world's best speed skaters compete on five individual distances and the team pursuit for the world title.
The competition is organized since 1996 by the International Skating Union (ISU). Towards the twentieth century speed skaters started to specialize instead of racing multiple distances at the allround championships. Therefore, skaters were no longer able to dominate both the short and the long distances.
