Israel completes high-tech barrier at Egypt border -

The completion date of the virtual fence along the 205 km border with Egypt was originally set for September 2013, but gained more urgency by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu following the Palestinian declaration of sovereignty in September 2011.

The main goal of the fence is to stop the smuggling of people and weapons by Palestinian militants.
 

The high-tech fence is built alongside the physical barrier at the border and will feature towers with radars for the detection and prevention of recognized dangerous objects coming near the Israeli border. Due to this capabilities, Israel's border control is expected to increase significantly.
