On April 15, 1912, the world’s most luxurious and, until that day, the world's safest passenger liner struck an iceberg on her maiden voyage from Southampton, England, to New York City.
Of a total of 2,224 people aboard the Titanic only 710, less than a third, survived and 1,514 perished.
To commemorate the 100th anniversary of Titanic’s voyage, a memorial project at the Titanic Quarter in Belfast (building site of RMS Titanic) will be unveiled, and the 1997 film Titanic will be released in 3D.
In addition, a service to mark the moment of Titanic's sinking is held on board of memorial cruise Balmoral at 02:20 GMT. The cruise set sail last Sunday to follow the Titanic's exact route. Among the passengers are relatives of survivors, writers, historians as well as people fascinated by the Titanic story.
