Private security firms have to leave Afghanistan according to a deadline set by the Afghan President Hamid Karzai.
Karzai's original plan was to forbid these companies from operating in Afghanistan as of March 2012, but he extended the deadline for another 18 months after violence heavily increased in the war-torn country.

Karzai has always been critical of private security companies, because they would form a parallel administration to the Afghan government.
He once said that the companies are the biggest obstacles to law enforcement and the development of the interior ministry.
The Afghan Public Protection Force (APPF) has to take over the work previously done by private security firms.
