France run-off election

A second run-off election is held in which French voters choose between François Hollande and Nicolas Sarkozy, who received 28.6% and 27.1% respectively in the first round of April 22.

Both candidates have tried to convince the voters of the candidates who did not make it to the second round, and especially the ones of Marine Le Pen, the extreme right candidate, who received 17.9% of votes. Jean-Luc Mélanchon (left front) and Eva Joly (greens) have asked their voters to support the socialist candidate François Hollande.
In France, a two-round run-off voting electoral system is used. The voters vote for their favorite President in the first round. In case that no candidate reaches the absolute majority (at least 50,01% of the votes) in this first round, a second run-off round is organized after two weeks, in which the voters choose between the two candidates who gained the most votes in the first round.
