In 2008, the General Assembly of the United Nations declared that World Autism Day would be celebrated on April 2 every year.
"Autism is a lifelong developmental disability that manifests itself during the first three years of life. The rate of autism in all regions of the world is high and it has a tremendous impact on children, their families, communities and societies."
The Autism Fund and the Dutch Autism Association are the organizers of this event in the Netherlands and they plan and coordinate various activities.
