The EU Commission is preparing legislation under the Consumer Rights Directive, that forces companies doing business in the EU to end their often excessive surcharging on consumers for online payments with their credit cards.
Companies as RyanAir and AirBerlin charges around ten euro’s extra per booking per person, while it’s often unclear for consumers what justifies their actions.
In 2012, the British Government already enforced the legislation on companies doing business in the U.K. to end their practices of excessive surcharging on credit card payments.
