Kenya host their own conference on anti-piracy off East-African shores according to a foreign ministry official.

One of the main aims of the conference will be to prepare for a broader conference on anti-piracy in the UK. British Prime Minister David Cameron said in November that London would host a conference on Somalia in 2012 to pull together international efforts.

The Foreign office says the event “aims to bring together leaders of key partner countries and organisations, both in Africa and beyond, to help galvanise a common approach to address the problems and challenges of Somalia that affect us all. This includes tackling the issues of piracy, extremism and the underlying causes of instability and conflict in Somalia.”

The Horn of Africa nation has been without an effective central government since the 1991 ouster of president Siad Barre.
