Five police officers go on trial accused of manslaughter during the Egyptian uprising of January, 2011.

Four of the defendant police officers will be tried in absentia as their whereabouts remain unknown. Only one, Mohamed al-Shaimy will be tried in custody.

Hearings in the case were scheduled to take place at the Alexandria Criminal Court last December but the judge postponed the trial to allow for the completion of the third stage of voting for the People's Assembly elections.
