Their first coffee shop is expected to open in August or September thanks to a co-operation with Tata Group; India's biggest business house.
Starbucks initially planned its launches for mid 2011 but got delayed due to difficulties in acquiring real estate combined with high-land costs; a common problem faced by corporations in a country where small family shops dominate the business sphere.
"We are in the process of looking at real estate opportunities at the moment. We are moving as quickly as possible and the expansion of stores will be based on the customer feedback we get," John Culver, president of Starbucks for China and Asia Pacific, told reporters.
