Turkish football is shaken at its foundations over allegations of match-fixing practices at a number of football matches in the country’s top two football divisions.
The public prosecutor filed a lawsuit against 93 defendants in the Turkish football bribery scandal, which is expected to last for over two years. Besides individual court penalties, the UEFA can exclude the football clubs of the European football leagues.
A mix of players, managers, accountants and even club presidents of football clubs like Fenerbahçe CK and Besiktas are among the 93 defendants.
There have been similar cases in Spain and Italy, but the magnitude in the Turkish football competition is unprecedented and can severely damage the reputation of professional football in Turkey.
