Its primary task is to define and implement monetary policy for the eurozone, which is currently composed of 17 european states, in order to provide monetary stability within the eurozone.

Monetary policy issues are usually discussed only at the first meeting of the month and presented to the public during a press conference. The bank reveals its monatery policy during the ECB Press Conference, where it will announce its decision whether to increase, decrease, or maintain interest rates.
