The Arab League host an extraordinary meeting to discuss the ongoing crisis in Syria, as reported by the Reuters agency.

The meeting is especially important to be able to take a new unanimous decision on a joint UN-Arab Mission to Syria.

Dozens of civilian lives have been lost in recent government-backed artillery interventions in the centrally located Syrian city of Homs; and more recently in the historic city of Aleppo. Damascus has ignored appeals to halt the despair despite growing international appeal.

A statement could also be issued on a joint Chinese-Russian decision to ban a U.N. Security Council resolution based on an Western-backed Arab peace plan.

The last Arab League observer mission was suspended by secretary general Nabil el Araby due to increasing violence in Syria and Saudi Arabia pulling out half way.
