The Paris-Roubaix is one of the top cycling events to attend in the Spring. It is also one of the oldest of its kind, having started in 1896. The race has run continuously afterwards and only the two World Wars prevented it from happening.

The competition starts in Compiègne (60km north-east from Paris since 1968 though it did initially start from Paris) and ends in Roubaix. The track is 258km and there are many cobbled sections, which increase the difficulty of the race. For this the winner also gets a cobbled stone in addition to his prize.
