Journalists at Thomson Reuters lay down their pens for 48 hours at the exact time that the company releases its full-year financial results.
The first in over 25 years, the Reuters strike is the result of an overwhelming 83% vote at the National Union of Journalists in protest of the below-inflation pay offer of 1.75%.
According to the Thomson Reuters NUJ chape officers Mike Roddy and Helen Long, Reuters itself is to blame for ignoring repeated warnings that members were increasingly desperate to make ends meet, the low wages affecting families to the point they could no longer afford to live in London.
Stephen Adler, editor-in-chief of Reuter News, has assured readers contingency plans have been set up to guarantee Reuters will continue to produce quality journalism throughout the strike.
