The Supreme Court of Appeal in Bloemfontein rules on the decision to drop the corruption case against the President of South Africa, Jacob Zuma.
Zuma's long corruption case started in 2005 when his financial advisor Schabir Shaik was charged with corruption and fraud. After Zuma's case was dismissed and brought back to court repeatedly between 2006 and 2008, the National Prosecuting Authority finally dropped all corruption charges against him in April of 2009. The same year, the appeal against the prosecution decision was handed down to the Supreme Court of Appeal.
Both Zuma's supporters and his opponents are putting all their hopes into the final outcome of the case, as it could determine the future of president's political career and change the course of South African politics. Zuma's opposition would welcome re-electing Thabo Mbeki for the presidential post. Mbeki resigned from his post after being accused of manipulating the prosecution of Jacob Zuma on corruption charges.
