The Cultural Olympiad presents Music Nation, a weekend of music around the U.K. to set the scene and boost excitement in the lead up to the London 2012 Festival. The festival is the finale of the Cultural Olympiad.
Music Nation aims at reaching more than 25.000 people at 45 locations around the U.K. It is co-organized by the BBC, but thousands of other organizations are involved as well.
Roger Mosey, BBC's director of London 2012, has said that Music Nation is a geographically ambitious project: "It is an attempt to have great music making across the UK that weekend - as near to as many people as possible".
The Cultural Olympiad is the largest cultural celebration in the history of the modern Olympic and Paralympic Games. Since 2008, it has featured different programmes and projects inspired by the London Olympic Games.
