An Egyptian Court gives its verdict on the Coptic telecom magnate and politician Naguib Sawiris.

He is charged with insulting Islam after tweeting a picture of a bearded Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse wearing a face veil.

A member of the prosecution referred to Sawiris as "the criminal who deliberately abased Islam". Defense lawyers of Sawiris have said that their client is devoted to Egypt and that it was not his intention to insult the Islam when he posted the photo.

Moreover, the defense lawyers argued that the beard is not specifically Islamic and that the face veil is not obligatory according to the Islam. They also said there is no technical proof that Sawiris himself published the picture.

Sawiris, co-founder of the liberally positioned 'Free Egyptians' party, also known locally as 'Al-Masryeen Al-Ahrar', had his last hearing on February 11.
