The Sun on Sunday, the Sunday edition of the biggest selling UK daily newspaper, is published for the first time.

The Sun is owned by Rupert Murdoch's News Corporation and published by the News Group Newspaper division of News International.

In past years, News International has been involved in number of controversies, including the 'phone-hacking affair' leading to the closure of the News of the World tabloid. The last edition of the tabloid, which was considered the 'Sunday sister paper' the of The Sun, came out on the 10th of July 2011. Speculations about the launch of the Sun on Sunday have been circulating ever since.

The launch has been confirmed on the 17th of February by media mogul Rupert Murdoch, who is currently staying in London to support his journalists and oversee the whole operation.
