Iceland Ex-PM Geir Haarde on Trial
The parliament claims he exhibited significant negligence toward the critical situation in the country.
Haarde became PM in 2006. The difficult economic situation that took over Iceland during his service in the office pushed him in to resigning in 2009. Nevertheless, he claims that he is innocent.
If the ex-PM is found guilty he could spend two years in prison. He would also be the first world leader to ever be prosecuted for his contribution to the international fiscal crisis.
