The sessions of the CND serve as a forum for nations to debate drug policies. The Commission is made up of states, rather than individuals, which allows governments to directly and effectively implement their policies.
The Commission on Narcotic Drugs is the central drug policy-making body within the United Nations structure. One of its important function is to call the attention of the International Narcotics Control Board. The most important role of the Commission is to to amend the schedules of controlled substances.
The Commission is composed of 53 states with seats distributed among five regions: Africa, Asia, Latin America and Caribbeans, Western Europe and Eastern Europe.
