The Stedelijk Museum re-opens to the public after it was closed for almost eight years due to renovation.
The renovation of the Stedelijk's building from 1895 has converted all of its program spaces into galleries, which makes it possible for the museum to show its permanent collection in a comprehensive way.
Moreover, a new building is added to the museum, designed by Mels Crouwel. It provides new space for the Stedelijk Museum's temporary exhibitions.
The renovation of the museum took four years longer than planned and the overall renovation costs of 127 million euro were 20 million higher than estimated.
Founded in 1874, the Stedelijk Museum is dedicated to modern and contemporary art and design. With more than 90,000 objects, the museum has one of the most important collections of modern and contemporary art in the world.
