Military commission tries 9/11 masterminds

Five Al Qaeda militants accused of being the masterminds behind the 9/11 attacks on New York, Washington and Shanksville, are tried by a military commission on charges of terrorism, hijacking, conspiracy, murder and destruction of property.
Amongst the suspects is Kuwait-born US militant Khalid Sheikh Mohammed. If found guilty, he and his four accomplices could be sentenced to death.
An estimated total of 2,976 people died during the 2001 attacks.
