The objective of Diamandouros' mission is to increase trust between European citizens and EU institutions. In the time of the worst economic crisis in the history of the EU, this trust has been greatly undermined. The citizens of the EU Member States are becoming more and more sceptical of the EU's ability to resolve the crisis.
The seminar aims to explore the measures that European institutions as well as national governments can take to regain the trust of their citizens.
Among the keynote speakers are José Manuel Barroso, the President of the European commission, and Martin Schulz, the President of the European Parliament. The event is chaired by Shirin Wheeler, the BBC's EU correspondent.
