European Commission presents 2013 budget proposal -

The European Commission adopts the draft EU budget for the year 2013. 


Considering the current economic situation, the Commission will present a budget with sufficient funding potential for growth and jobs in line with the Europe 2020 strategy.


The annual budget is equivalent to around 1% of the EU’s national wealth. 


The EU budget is an important tool, with almost all European citizens benefiting from the activities it funds in one way or another. These can, for instance, include safer food, better roads or safeguarding fundamental rights. 


The budget proposal is to be adopted before December 31.
