Scotland Yard officer PC Alex MacFarlane appears at court. He is charged with race abuse which allegedly took place during the riots in London last summer. 


The prosecution had first decided not to charge PC MacFarlane, however, after receiving new footage, they reviewed the case and decided to charge the defendant on the charge of racially aggravated public offence. 


The new footage, which was recorded on the protester's mobile phone, is said to show the officer saying to the 21-year-old protester: "The problem with you is you will always be a n*****, yeah?"


An additional charge of assault relating to an allegation of strangulation was rejected.


This case is one in a chain of allegations, involving ten different officers, that are currently being investigated.
