Center-right French Presidential candidate, Nicolas Sarkozy, holds a major May Day rally, on the the left's traditional Labour day.
"[on] May 1, we will organise a celebration of work, but a celebration of real work, of those who work hard, those who are threatened, who suffer, who want an end to the situation that when someone doesn't work they can earn more than when they work," Sarkozy said at a supporters meeting.

Sarkozy came second in the first round of the election with 27.1 percent of the votes. Shortly after the results were announced, the campaign struggle between him and the winner of the first round, François Hollande, started anew, attempting to win as many votes as possible, for a definite victory in the run-off elections.
Sarkozy's main effort has been to win over the 18 percent of the French who gave their vote to Marie Le Pen in the first round.
