More than 300,000 could face disruptions to their internet connections according to recent public announcement by the FBI.
The commotion is thought to made possible through a certain malicious piece of software downloaded unknowingly by computer users worldwide, believed to have already infected around 500,000 users in the US alone.
The makers of the virus were picked up in November of 2011 in an operation called 'Operation Ghost Click'.
As a preemptive measure, the FBI are to shut down a number of vital DNS servers that will result in internet connection loss for those who have not removed the malware by July 9.
