Romanian PM-designate Ponta seeks confidence vote

Romania's new left-oriented government, which was announced by the Prime Minister-designate, Victor Ponta, on May 1, seeks parliamentary vote of confidence.
Mihai Razvan Ungureanu's center-right government fell after only two months in office, following the parliamentary confidence vote loss on April 27, a vote that was organized by the opposition Social Liberal Union.
The toppled Romanian government has faced public protests against austerity measures, which were necessary to ensure the aid from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to the EU's second poorest member.
Following the collapse of the government, the IMF halted the review of a 5 billion-euro aid deal with Romania. Ponta, however, plans to restart the talks as soon as possible.
