FDA decides on final approval of HIV pill

The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) carries out a final decision on approval of a daily drug, Truvada, for use by people considered at high risk of contracting the Aids virus.
The drug has been approved by the FDA Antiviral Drugs Advisory Committee on May 10 by a majority of vote. Some experts believe that the move could be a new milestone in the fight against HIV.
"This brings us closer to a watershed for global HIV prevention efforts," said Mitchell Warren, executive director of the Aids Vaccine Advocacy Coalition.
The FDA is not required to follow committee's advice, however, it does so in most cases.
