US President Barack Obama skips the 2012 APEC Summit in Russia.
The Summit takes place on the same week the Democratic National Convention is held, where Obama will accept the Democratic Party's nomination for re-election.
Obama's absence from the Summit was already expected, although the White House did not confirm it until May 14.
Rumours are circulating that Russian President Vladimir Putin will not attend the G8-Summit in Chicago in May because he assumed Obama would skip the APEC Summit which Putin is hosting. However, according to Putin, he is too busy to attend the G8-Summit.
