Over 120,000 16-year-olds complete the National Citizen's Service (NCS), a new programme that is to transform UK teens into better citizens after completing their GCSEs.
During two weeks away from home, the teenagers join in several outdoor activities and design and implement their own volunteering project in their community.
Though the programme will cost around £156m at a time when £100m is being cut from youth services, ministers have argued every pound spent on the programme will render double the investment in value to society.
