Head of Syria opposition platform resigns

Burhan Ghalioun, the head of the main opposition alliance, the Syrian National Council (SNC), resigns following some of the alliance members' dissatisfaction with his re-election as SNC president.
Following his re-election, the key activist group threatened to leave the SNC, which since its creation as a united opposition front has been troubled by divisions.
Ghalioun has been accused by the activists of monopolizing power, being too close to the major SNC's group, the Muslim Brotherhood, and failing to offer enough support to activists inside Syria.
"I will not allow myself to be the candidate of division, I am not attached to a position, so I announce that I will step down after a new candidate has been chosen, either by consensus or through new elections," Ghalioun stated.
