France withdraws all combat troops from Afghanistan

On November 20, France ended its combat operations in Afghanistan, pulling 500 soldiers in trucks and armored vehicles from Nijrab base in the Kapisa region.
"This is the end of combat operations," Col. Thierry Burkhard, a French military spokesman, commented on the move. "It's the end of support operations for the Afghan National Army because we have no more troops who can deploy in such a role."
In 2013, the only remaining French troops will be those taking part in the International Security Assistance Force.
President Hollande also promised that France will continue to support Afghanistan in a "different way", but to date did not provide any further specification.
