The members of the European Parliament do attend the 2012 UEFA European Football Championship in Ukraine, after they failed to back the idea of an official boycott.
The European Commission, as well as several European governments, decided to boycott the championship over the situation with former Ukrainian Prime Minister, Yulia Tymoshenko.
MEPs plan instead to attempt to visit the political prisoners held in Ukraine and to appeal to the country's government to release them immediately.
