The new Serbian President, Tomislav Nikolic, visits Brussels on his first official presidential trip.
"He [Nikolic] confirmed to me that his first official visit after the inauguration would be Brussels and that European integration remained a priority for him," said Slovak Foreign Minister, Miroslav Lajcak, after his meeting with Nikolic in Belgrade.
Lajcak traveled to Serbia as an informal envoy of the EU Foreign Policy Chief, Catherine Ashton, to deliver a message urging Serbia to remain on a pro-Western course.
Nikolic's trip to Brussels is seen as a confirmation of his promise to pursue Serbia's bid to join the EU and to advocate for close economic relations between the East and the West.
