Supreme Court holds hearing in Toronto disputed vote case -
Canada's supreme court

Canada's Supreme Court holds a special summer hearing in the case of the disputed Toronto riding elections.

The decision came after Ontario Superior Court judge found the results of 2011 federal election to be null and void, after liberal leader Borys Wrzesnewskyj challenged the results that showed a win for conservative leader Ted Opitz in Toronto-area riding of Etobicoke.

The judge found that there were problems with the way the elections were done. According to the ruling, Wrzesnewskyj was able to show that at least 79 votes should not have been counted.

Conservative leader appealed to the Supreme Court, hoping to reverse the Superior Court's ruling. Despite his wishes to hold the elections around October, the Supreme Court decided to hold the elections in the summer in order to review the case as soon as possible.
