Japan's fifty reactors were closed for maintenance following the Fukushima power plant disaster last year. Before the shut-down, nuclear power used to provide one third of Japan's electricity.
Japan's Prime Minister, Yoshihiko Noda, has called for support of restarting the reactors due to summer power shortages that parts of the country are expected to face.
The widespread public fear and opposition to nuclear power, however, remains strong.
