The San Fermin Festival, or as it used to know outside Spain as the Running of the Bulls, is an annual festival during which a small group of bulls is released in the streets of Pamplona and are preceded or followed by people.
The Pamplona 'encierro' is the most famous bulls festival in Spain and is broadcasted live on two national television channels.
The presence of the bulls and the running in the small streets always leads to dangerous situations, resulting in 200 to 300 injured people annually. Although most injuries are not serious, 15 people have died during the runs since 1924.
The Running of the Bulls has been held since the fourteenth century and originally served to transport the bulls from their beads to the bullring, where they would be killed.
